Located next to Mad Jack at Simpang Bedok is Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh 順發肉骨茶. I was informed that the place is like a huge yellow ribbon project. The boss hirers ex-offenders because he was one himself and he knows how tough it is to get a job outside. I must say that the service was not bad and the waiter could speak both English, Mandarin and other dialects fluently too.
Now on to the food, I’m not a very big fan of the peppery kind of Bak Kut Teh, I like my BKT totally herbal. Here at Soon Huat, it is the herbal type and the taste is not too overwhelming, which is good because it won’t chase many customers away.
The pork ribs were soft, unlike some other places where the meat is tough. That itself is a plus point for me, I can have my pork ribs comfortably instead of struggling to tear it off the bone. Soup can be topped up at no extra cost.
We ordered the usual stuff like tau pok, tau gua and since I didn’t prepare this post immediately, I can’t remember what else we ordered. I do remember we ordered the braised tau kee which is recommended.
I ordered the lemon jelly drink, I would recommend that too.
Would I come back again? Definitely. At least its better than 4 Fingers, God knows why the queue is so long for that joint.
